AUT's Wiki Rangahau (Research Week) is an opportunity for staff, postgraduate research students, and community members to connect, celebrate AUT’s research, and create space for research discussions and skill-building. This year’s theme is “Research that Makes a Difference,” and we will have a special focus on recognising and celebrating the many ways in which AUT research enables practical improvements in the real world for our people, communities, organisations, and environments.

Join us for a variety of workshops and panels, symposia and showcases from AUT's faculties and schools, the Postgraduate Research Symposium, and much more.

We invite you to register for your choice of events below. Please note that you cannot register for events that occur simultaneously; so if you find you are unable to select an event, it may be because you have already selected a concurrent event.

Please send any questions to the organising team at research.week@aut.ac.nz.

What are “queer comics?” For that matter, what is “queer art?” Dr. Tof Eklund, co-author of the forthcoming Queer Comics: An Introduction, draws a line from ancient cave art and the Kajuraho temple sculptures through lesbian shunga and physique magazine pinups to arrive at a vibrant, international queer comics and cartooning scene. Queer webcomics and crowdsourced publication models have made it possible for artists from places as far apart as Mexico, Morocco, Sweden, the Philippines, and Aotearoa New Zealand to communicate and share their work, but a renewed backlash against queer liberation threatens their work and their communities.

In this event we celebrate the researchers and research teams who have been successful (or have come close!) in securing external research grants and partnerships in 2024-5. External funds and partnerships are an important way of powering AUT research and connecting our researchers with the communities and organisations that can benefit from our findings. Pursuing these opportunities can be competitive and time-consuming; and so we celebrate those who have invested their time and energy in this important work.
